The 67th edition of SEMINCI is here

The Valladolid International Film WeekD is one of the oldest film festivals in Europe, having its first session in 1956. Did you know that it has a religious origin and was born out of an interest in taking the seventh art as a means of transmitting Catholic moral values? In fact, the first name was Valladolid Week of Religious Cinema.

The significance of the event was in terms of its growth and change of theme; In 1973 the religious character of the festival was eliminated and over time it became one of the most famous film festivals in Spain and the world. The 67th edition is about to start and we have an inevitable date in Valladolid from October 22 to 29 Get to know the best premieres and watch the world’s cinematic elite up close on the green carpet.

We will visit Valladolid in the last week of October and wander its streets as Miguel Delibes or Jose Zorrilla or Rosa Chacil did and discover all the culture that suits them; This time through the lens of a film camera.

Films of all nationalities compete in the official section: they will be represented France, Ireland, Portugal, United Kingdom, South Korea, Iran or Ukraine; Also Spain and the USA. They have their sample. The festival will kick off with the screening of “Spanish No mires a los ojos” by Félix Fiscaret, starring Juan Diego Boto, and based on the novel “Desde la sombra” by Juan José Melas. The film concludes with Master Gardener: a stunning American thriller by Paul Schrader, starring the brilliant Sigourney Weaver.

In addition to the programming of short films and feature films, for the first time there will be a space dedicated to series at Seminci. Domestic and international products – non-competitive – will be shown on televisions and platforms. Among others, we will be able to watch The Chosen (The Chosen Ones), The Dark Heart and the Spanish documentary series Pact of Silence. Santiago Corilla “The Nanny” and the Police Mafia or PornoXplotación, by Mabel Lozano, on white slavery and international prostitution gangs.

Besides the official section for films and shorts vying to win the spike, the festival is divided into sections such as Tiempo de Historia and DOC. Spain (documentaries), specials, series and Mungiu cycle directed by Mungiu.

Mungui by Mungiu is a retrospective that brings together three feature films and three short films by Romanian director Christian Mungiu. They will also screen three other films he has chosen that he has inspired. Mungiu, winner of the Cannes Palme d’Or for 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days, will give a master class on Wednesday, October 26, at 12 noon, in the Miguel Delibes Auditorium in Calderon Theater.

We will also have a non-competitive section: Spanish Cinema, which aims to showcase the most important author films produced by Spanish cinema over the past season. They will be shown in transcripts with English subtitles as their destination are foreign journalists and professionals accredited to the festival. Titles such as As bestas, El agua or Suro will be displayed, as well as Cinco lobitos or 100 dias con la tata. As well as El Karas, the Golden Bear award-winning film at the last Berlinale that will represent us at the Oscars.
