Strategic alliance with the United Kingdom to ensure the right to health

The Deputy Minister of Social Protection, Alberto Martinez, presented an evaluation of his visit to health institutions in the United Kingdom, within the framework of setting an agenda that dealt with the medical and academic aspects.

“We have been able to see how the English National Health System works and share some experiences with the Department of Health and Social Protection,” said the Deputy Secretary for Social Protection.

The experience allowed to know the sources and financing system, the management of resources directed to the interest of the British population, as well as the various aspects of managing their human talent and focusing on the cycle of managing their employees, ensuring employment rights for healthcare workers in the UK.

The Deputy Minister highlighted the functioning of the British Parliament, the quality of its democracy, the design and approval of laws, and the way government interacts in the regions.

The possibility of attending the Royal College, an institution in which family doctors are permanently trained, and knowing how the certification and rehabilitation of these doctors, who form the bedrock of the health teams in the United Kingdom, allows us to understand how these teams are distributed in the territory.

“This contact with the population creates a direct link of dialogue and trust with the families, something similar to what is happening in Colombia through the preventive and predictive model,” Martinez added.

The agenda included a visit to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, the entity responsible for directing disease prevention and treatment policies, where technologies and cost standards are evaluated against. Efficacy, suggested clinical practice guidelines, as well as care protocols for regimen components.

At the Francis Crick Institute, a well-known center for biomedical research in London, a direct dialogue has been established with its authorities, in order to open a space for permanent and continuous exchange and mutual cooperation, allowing various health professionals to attend this institute and continue their post-doctoral training.

This first approach should be the first link facilitating interaction with the United Kingdom with the aim of defining aspects and actions that can be implemented in Colombia, such as strengthening this alliance between the two countries and advancing the evolution of the health system, towards a model that contributes to ensuring the effective enjoyment of the fundamental right to health and protection Resources and comprehensive care of the population.
