Kadokawa CorporationFromSoftware’s owner has announced a strategic alliance with Sony. However, they intend to work on new content to expand their global reach.

Through a financial report, the Kadokawa Corporation stated that it has entered into a “capital alliance” with Sony. As part of this agreement, 1.93% of the entire business was awarded to Sony.

The point is that Sony is not the only one involved with the Kadokawa Corporation. They indicated in the report that they gave the same percentage to CyberAgent. It’s the company that owns CyGames, and it’s the creator of the mobile games that have been hugely popular in Japan.

What is required of this agreement?

What the Kadokawa Corporation is pursuing with this deal is to harness Sony’s “growing global power for consumer animation and gaming”. They also want an agreement to facilitate the “creation, development, and acquisition” of new IP addresses, as well as maximizing the value of the privileges they already have.

“We believe it is imperative to raise this money to avoid losing investment opportunities and enhance our ability to create franchises based on our history of creating the rich and unique franchises we see in books, movies, cartoons, games and user-generated content platforms,” the company said.

It should be noted that this does not mean that Kadokawa companies such as FromSoftware will be obligated to develop exclusive games for the PlayStation. However, it does demonstrate Sony’s intention to diversify its investment and could lead to a closer relationship between the two companies.
