Scientists have just discovered a very rare and unprecedented object in space – the Enseñame de Ciencia

Space never ceases to amaze us, because every time we look with a small or large telescope, we end up finding more questions than answers. And this is the case of something that has baffled the scientific community, so let’s get to it

It comes to Two “twin” planets in the same orbit, which is located in the solar system 370 light years away from us. According to the new images of the PDS-70 planetary system, they have the presence of a cloud of matter that does not fit, but has aroused the interest of the scientific community, because this cloud is located in the same region as one of the planets of the PDS-70b system orbits, and it seems that the cloud is hiding a planet. Which is pretty amazing, because it will be the second time that two planets share the same orbital path.

What do scientists say about another discovery like this?

Olga Balsalobre-Rosa, a member of the research team at the Center for Astrology (CAB), commented the following in a press release: “Two decades ago, it was theoretically predicted that pairs of planets of similar masses could share the same orbit around their star, the so-called Trojan orbital planets. For the first time, we found evidence in favor of this idea.” Balsalobre-Rosa and his team used the European Southern Observatory’s (ESO) Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA) to analyze the planetary system and draw their conclusions.

Although the main hypothesis is that the observed spot is associated with a planet, scientists are not clear whether it will be a planet in the process of formation or if the planet did indeed form, but was wrapped in a cloud of matter left over from the process of planet formation.

According to experts, it is possible that they can be called planets Trojans, which are rocky bodies in the same orbit as a planet, these types of planets are very common in our solar system. For example, we have Jupiter’s Trojans, which are more than 12,000 rocky bodies in the same orbit around the Sun. We can imagine that a planet could share its orbit with thousands of asteroids as in the case of Jupiter, but I am amazed that planets can share the same orbit,” Balsallubri-Rosa noted.

Also, co-author and principal investigator of the Center for Astrobiology, Jorge Lillo Box, has his comment on extrasolar Trojans “Exotrojans (exotrojans) are so far like unicorns, they are allowed to exist in theory, but no one has ever discovered them.”

This will have to wait until 2026 for confirmation, when ALMA will be used to see if both PDS-70b and its sister debris cloud have been moving significantly in their orbit around the star. “This would be a major advance in the field of exoplanets,” said Rosa Palsalopere.

We want to conclude this beautiful and interesting discovery with what the Director of the ESO Science Office in Chile, Itziar de Gregorio Monsalvo, points out: “This discovery opens up new questions about the formation of Trojan horses, how they evolve and how frequently they occur in different planetary systems.” As you can see, all this leaves more questions than answers.
