Russia adopts the list of “enemy” countries to which it will pay its debts in rubles

The Russian government said on Monday that the Russian authorities have drawn up a list of countries “hostile” to the country, in which individuals and companies will be able to repay their debts in rubles, a currency that has lost 45% of its value since January.

This list of countries, drawn up after a presidential decree on Friday referring to a “temporary measure,” includes, among others, European Union (EU) countries, Australia, the United States, Canada, the United States, Switzerland and Japan. ..

For this, the debtor may ask a Russian bank to create a special account in rubles in the name of the foreign creditor and send a payment in Russian currency for the amount due, at the exchange rate on the day in question, as indicated by the Central Bank.

This measure will be applied to payments in excess of 10 million rubles per month.

This is the first Russian response to the unprecedented sanctions imposed on the country by many foreign countries, following its military intervention in Ukraine.

Sanctions caused a historical depreciation of the ruble and was accompanied by the freezing of part of the funds of the authorities abroad, which prevents the Central Bank from supporting the Russian currency.

The Russian currency was trading Monday morning at 137.70 rubles to the dollar. from 1st. January lost 45% of its value.
