Filmed at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in 2021, where the show was temporarily set up following the pandemic, the production is directed by the musical’s creator, Sara Bareilles as Gina, alongside Drew Gilling as Dr. Pomatter, Charity Angel Dawson as Becky and Caitlin Holahan as Dawn, Christopher Fitzgerald as Auggie, Eric Anderson as Cal, Dakin Matthews as Joe, and Joe Tippett as Earl.
The film premiered in UK cinemas earlier this spring, and is now available on a variety of streaming platforms for UK viewers (such as Amazon Prime and Apple). DVD and Blu-Ray are also available for UK shores.
The musical features a book by Jessie Nelson, directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus, and choreographed by Lauren Latarro. Based on the film of the same name, the film is about a young waitress at a diner who dreams of quitting her job and starting a life of her own.
