Medical students prepare meals for cornfields

Zacatecas, Zak – Students of the 6th semester of the General Practitioner degree, from groups E, F and G, held the third festival “Our Roots” of the ancestral milpa system, under the supervision of teacher Fabiola de la Rosa Oliva, part of the theme Nutrition

At the opening ceremony in Arrado Square, Secretary General Ángel Román Gutiérrez noted that the stands were a “Mexican image”, saving our Mexico that we defend and enjoy.

He appreciated the students’ effort in displaying, decorating and describing Mexican dishes.

Director of the Academic Unit for Human Medicine and Health Sciences (UAMHyCS), Rosa Martha Covarrubias Carrillo, explained that the Mexican diet provides nutrition, fruits, vegetables and meat.

Residents were able to sample dishes such as cornbread, alejas with pineapple mousse, palanquitas, guava atole, pitaya and teguino water, and dishes prepared with nopal, corn and beans.

In the stands, the students explained the nutritional value of their dishes, explaining that the milba diet consists of four elements: beans, corn, pumpkin and chili peppers; Mix beans and corn to get the protein and carbohydrates the body needs.

The ceremony was attended by Health Sciences Coordinator Juan Armando Flores de la Torre; Academic Secretary of UAMHyCS, Elda García Mayorga and residents.
