INAI appoints academics to the INE Committee

Mexico City. – The INAI Plenary appointed Academics María Esther Azuela Gómez and Sergio López Aylón as members of the Technical Evaluation Committee that will be responsible for evaluating applicants for four seats on the Institute’s General Council.

In plenary, the commissioners of the National Institute of Access to Information (INAI) unanimously chose Azuela Gómez and López Aylon from a list of 10 candidates.

According to the syllabi read before voting, Azuela Gómez is a political scientist and journalist, who studied political science and public administration at Universidad Iberoamericana and holds a master’s degree in politics and public administration at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.

From 1997 to 1999, she was Director of Electoral Training and Civic Education at the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE), Deputy Director of Training and Personnel Development at the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT), as well as Director of the Human Development Organization at IFAI from 2003 to 2006.

López-Aylon holds a law degree and doctorate from the United Nations University, and a master’s degree in sociology of law and social relations from the University of Law, Economics and Social Sciences in Paris.

He is a professor and researcher in the Department of Legal Studies at the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE), an institution where he served as Director General between February 2013 and July 2021.

He is a member of the National System of Tertiary Scholars, the Mexican Academy of Sciences, the Board of Directors of Transparency Mexico, the Advisory Board of the Accountability Network, and the Advisory Council of Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity.

The Technical Evaluation Committee will consist of seven members, two of whom will be appointed by INAI, two by the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) and the remaining three by the House of Representatives.

This committee will evaluate applicants for four INE General Council positions that will become vacant next year and will present their results to the House Political Coordinating Council, which will take the quinques to plenary session. to vote.
