Green card processing in the United States is being accelerated

The United States extends the validity period for an authorized signature of a medical report and vaccination record, from a maximum of 60 days to a maximum of two years. The document (Form I-693) must bear the signature of a civilian physician. It constitutes one of the prerequisites for applying for a permanent resident card (also known as a green card, or in English: a green card). Similarly, to manage immigration status adjustment.

Updating the procedure will make it possible to submit applications that previously would not have been successful due to disability. This, in the midst of an unprecedented immigration crisis in the country.

Faster Green Card Granting

The overall and most sensitive effect of this measure should be to speed up the permanent residency and immigration status adjustment process.

As of December 9, 2021, the basic medical examination to obtain a green card, among other benefits, remains temporarily exempt.

Previously, applicants had to file a Request for Evidence (RFE) of Form I-693. This must be signed no more than 60 days prior to filing the Application to Register Permanent Resident or Adjust Status (Form I-485).

Now, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will accept a form that, for “arbitration purposes,” will remain valid for up to two years after the date it was signed by the civil physician. This is how the Migration Agency explains it in an official statement.

The direct beneficiaries are clearly foreign applicants for permanent residence and adjustment of immigration status in the United States.

However, with the USCIS action, it also responds to complaints from civilian physicians, immigration officials, and federal collaborators. Well, the requirement of “no more than 60 days” caused a lot of doubts and chaos in the process management.

At the time, the goal of the rule was to reduce the number of requests that applicants send in updated I-693 forms. But, in practice, the result has been repeated immigration medical checks, once the civilian doctor’s signature expires, after 60 days.
