Frescoes from Guatemala’s National Palace of Culture come to life

According to the Ministry of Culture and Sports (MCD), this is the penultimate phase of the project responsible for more than 20 professionals with technical skills due to the complexity of the works embodied on the ceilings of the iconic facility.

Luis Miranda, who is in charge of the team, explained that the first phase involved mechanically cleaning each panel, investigating how it initially appeared to see the real damage and starting to put together the design templates and create the original colors. .

Miranda said each section takes two to three working weeks.

For his part, the director of the palace, Daniel Orozco, announced that by 2023 they will have the goal of completing the complete restoration of the walls on the third level, as well as the renewal of the wooden beams on the columns of the corridors.

The site houses important collections of painting and sculpture, and since 2001 has been part of the MCD.

It is used by the Executive Branch of Protocol Works and is within kilometer 0 of all highways going from Guatemala City to the provincial capitals.

On December 29, 1996, peace agreements were signed between the government and the militants in one of the courtyards.
