French Socialists celebrate the election results in Spain

Bravo Pedro Sanchez – Head of Government and Secretary General of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) – wrote that the European Union is breathing better, the French MP wrote on Twitter, regarding elections in which the right-wing Popular Party (PP) won but without enough seats to come to power, even allying with the far-right Vox party.

Although the outcome of the appointment at the polls is still not in sight and at the moment it is not known if the elections will have to be repeated in a few months, Faure congratulated Sumar from the Economic Socialist Party and the Left Alliance.

“Together we are stronger than the right and the far right,” he said.

The first secretary of the Socialist Party also responded to a tweet in which the Socialist Workers Party published, “There are many of us who want Spain to continue advancing to follow the path of setback that the People’s Party marked with Vox.”

According to results published last night, with 96 percent of the vote counted, the People’s Party has 136 seats, followed by PSOE’s 122, Vox’s 33 and Sumar’s 31, all short of reaching the 176-seat outright majority necessary in Congress to govern.

Elections in Spain have been in the crosshairs of the French left for weeks, worried about the rise of the far right in Europe.

Faced with the vote, La Francia Insumisa (LFI) leader Jean-Luc Melenchon urged Spaniards on Friday to prevent the right-wing from coming to power.

People of Spain, you will vote on July 23, I am French, but we all feel involved in what will happen there, he said in a video message circulated on social networks, in which he spoke in Spanish.

According to the three-time presidential candidate, who was close to the polls last year, a progressive victory in the neighboring country is key, because “there are already many reactionary and far-right governments in Europe, and each one can see the results of that.”
