Dozens of Cantabrian students will participate in the “Greenpower” European Electric Vehicle Finals in the United Kingdom

The Minister of Education congratulates them and stresses the importance of having people “with an educational profession whose commitment goes beyond”

A total of 10 FP students from Team Cantabria, made up of the Montesclaros de Reynosa and Fuente Fresnedo de Laredo institutes, will compete on October 8 in the “Greenpower” European Electric Vehicle Final at the Chichester Circuit. Southern England.

The Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Universities, Sergio Silva, congratulated and encouraged the students during a meeting he held with them and their teachers, in which he was accompanied by the General Directors of Centers, Educational Infrastructure, Vocational Training and Continuing Education, Reyes Mantilla and Cristina Montes, respectively.

Silva expressed his conviction that “they will leave the Cantabrian wing very high”, although the result does not matter because “just being able to leave is a bonus for everyone.”

At this meeting, the Automotive Apprenticeship students were accompanied by their teachers and managers: Monica Sella (IES Fuente Fresnedo in Laredo) and Norberto García (IES Montesclaros in Reynosa).

Silva reminded them that the goal of his counseling is for students to have “vital, formative, and personal experiences” that contribute to their personal development, and that “they will always remember.” He stressed that such projects are possible thanks to the work of “people who have a commitment that goes beyond what their work requires of them,” with a teaching profession.

For their part, the teachers thanked the diligence of the new ministry team for their commitment and funding to be able to participate in this test despite the limited time to organize it.

They also wanted to recognize the work of other schools, such as IES Miguel Herrero in Torrelavega or IES Centro Integrado de Santander, which have collaborated in the production of vehicle parts.

Green Power – Bridgestone project.

The “Greenpower-Bridgestone Circuit” educational program consists of a set of car races in which the participants, children and young people between the ages of 9 and 25, have to design and build their own electric cars in order to participate. It is promoted by Bridgestone, a global leader in advanced and sustainable mobility solutions, along with the Alfonso Lebanon Firestone Foundation.

Cars that students and teachers build, design and build during extracurricular hours or as a co-curricular activity working as a team allow them to develop STEM skills.

The Cantabrian team, the Cantabrian team, consists of 10 drivers (5 students from each center) and four teachers (two from each IES) and will depart for British territory on the 4th of the month with their vehicles traveling by sea on the ferry.
