This new species was found in the province of Oaxabamba, at altitudes between 1,000 and 1,150 meters above sea level.

The discovery was co-founded by scientists from the Rainforest Partnership, the Peruvian Institute of Herpetology and the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador.
