To mark the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution that liberated Nicaragua from the Somoza dictatorship, a meeting was held Thursday at the Fidel Castro Ruz Center in the capital, the Cuban News Agency reported.
Giselle Socorro Morales, head of the diplomatic mission of Nicaragua, expressed her gratitude for commemorating this important event for her country.
He expressed that in this battle, the internationalism of the Cubans was demonstrated, not in words, but in their ability to go to the end and risk their lives for the liberation of the Sandinista homeland.
René González Barrios, director of the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, said that Nicaragua inspired revolutionaries around the world and that the process that developed there strengthened solidarity among peoples.
He stressed that the Cuban Revolution was born with a historical commitment to assist revolutionary attempts on the continent, which also extended to other regions.
Luis Rojas Nunez, a fighter for the Sandinista cause, spoke about the preparations made by Cuba to a group of Chileans to support the struggle in Nicaragua.
He pointed out that the figure of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz is an important part of this process due to his influence and political vision at the international level, which allowed other countries in the region to join the cause and support the struggle in Nicaragua.
During the meeting, an audio and video clip was shown in which Fidel Castro, the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, acknowledged before a crowd of people the important victory achieved by the people of Nicaragua, who had lived for several years in barbarism at the hands of the dictatorship.
Representatives of the embassies of Nicaragua and Venezuela, the diplomatic corps accredited to Cuba, and the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, among other guests, participated in the ceremony.
The revolution in Nicaragua, led by the Sandinista Front, marked a new beginning for these Latin American lands, and they began to formulate a national project more in harmony with the characteristics of their population.
