Another scammer appeared on Tinder: He stole over £141,000

A few days before the premiere Tinder scammer in a netflix, A similar case was launched for the man who cheated on several women across the platform.

Richard John Dexter, 38, of Highland Terrace, UK, has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for defrauding a woman he met on Tinder.

The man pleaded guilty to seven counts of fraud by false representation and obstruction of justice and one count of article possession for fraud.

Richard met his victim, Amrita Sebastian, on Tinder in May 2015. After building trust, the two began to have intimate conversations.

Prosecutor Robert Bryan said Dexter presented himself as a successful businessman, “selling biopharma technology and said it was worth £6.8m and was involved in Hollywood studios”.

Dexter started by telling Sebastian about his business deals and investments. He told her via text message: “Most of my friends have joined, they have debts and concerns and they all earn between £40,000 and £60,000. I just bought a hot air balloon yesterday because I could.”

Sebastian began to realize that something was not right and began to suspect that Dexter was not the person he said it was. She says she felt trapped and kept giving him the money in the hope that she would take back what he had already given her.

According to the above medium, Ms Amrita described him as ‘desperate’ for money and commented: ‘Because I had so much money already, I felt trapped to keep it aside and felt like the £5,500 was a small loan.’

According to the Daily Mail, “Dexter lied saying he had struck a deal with £3m for £3.6m”, also promising her that £1.8m was allotted to her.

In April 2018, authorities raided Dexter’s home for fraud.

Dexter’s grandmother said in court that he regularly asked her to transfer £10 to her because “his card didn’t work”. According to the Guardian, businessman Roy Mander who worked with him said: “His stories were found to be fictional (…) he was a liar, but he was a likable character, and he was a magician.”
