6 intellectuals and scholars will be honored for their contributions to the research and development of DR

The New Diary, Santo Domingo. – The Council for Higher Education, Science and Technology (CONESCyT) agreed to honor six Dominican intellectuals and scholars who have excelled in various fields of knowledge for the benefit of development and progress in the country, during a law that will be held next January 24 in the halls of the National Palace, in the presence of President Luis Abenader.

In Ordinary Session, chaired by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Franklin Garcia Firmin, as President of CONESCyT, this body accepted a good and valid proposal submitted by the Vice-Ministry of Technology and Innovation to honor Dominican intellectuals and scientists with Awards of Merit.

In this sense, CONESCyT has decided to recognize Professor Sixto Incháustegui Miranda, as the Scholar of the Nation 2022 Prize.

Through the Gustavo Rathe Medinacelli Prize, Julio Moisés Álvarez will be honored, in the field of Physical and Chemical Sciences, while Dr. Francisco Roberto Arias Milla will be awarded the André Vioebergh Prize in the field of Agro-Food Sciences.

Dr. Manuel Emilio Colomi Hidalgo will receive the Sergio Pincosme Ruiz Award in the field of Health Sciences, while Dr. Darwin Muñoz Núñez will receive the Álvaro Nadal Pastor Award in the field of Engineering and related fields.

The National Council of the Social Sciences (CONESCyT) also agreed to award the Recognition Award for the track that Dr. Roberto Casa will take in the field of social sciences.

Likewise, the Foundation has welcomed and honored eight Dominican intellectuals and scholars who have died in the past two years.

Among those to be honored posthumously are Tirso Mejía Ricart (1936-2021) in the field of humanities; Marcio Veloz Maggiolo (1936-2021), in the field of social sciences, also in the field of social sciences, Carlos Dore Cabral (1942-2022), Amadou Reyes (1950-2022).

In addition to Norma Cabral Calcagno (died 2022), in the field of agricultural food and veterinary sciences; Frank Baez Everett, Carlos Esteban Dave, and Ivelis Prats Ramirez de Pérez.

Together, the Mescyt organization created the Social Sciences Prize, in honor of historian and writer Hugo Tolentino Dipp, as well as the Humanities Prize on behalf of educator and university professor Jacobo Moquete.

The CONESCyt meeting, which took place in one of the halls of the National University of the Caribbean (UNICARIBE), was attended, in addition to Minister García Fermín, Vice-Ministers of MESCyT, José Cancel, Genaro Rodríguez Martínez, Carmen Evarista Matias, Paula Desla. Juan Francisco Viloria Santos and Chief of Staff Juan Medina.

In addition, the President of the Dominican Association of Universities, Jose Alejandro Aybar; Dean of the Dominican University of Industrial Psychology, Ricardo Winter; APC University President Franklin Holguin Haci; and Deputy Minister of Culture, Giovanni Cruz. Vice Rector for Research at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, Radhamis Silverio, and President of the Association of Institutes of Higher Education, Rene Frias, among other academic authorities.
