SigmaRoc shares fall 6% despite margin gains and EBITDA growth

Stronger margins and profit growth failed to impress investors as SigmaRoc flagged pockets of subdued demand.

SigmaRoc (AIM: SRC) saw its shares fall 6% on Wednesday despite reporting that profit growth outpaced revenue and margins widened over the first nine months of the year. The lime and minerals group said revenue for the nine months to 30 September rose 2.5% to £795m, while underlying EBITDA climbed 7.5% to £207.3m, pushing its margin up by more than a percentage point to 26.1%.

The share-price fall came despite what looked, on paper, like a solid set of figures, with the drop instead driven by a cautious note on trading conditions. SigmaRoc said some markets remained subdued amid ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainty, a warning that appears to have rattled investors already wary of the broader macro backdrop.

The group reported growth across all its end markets in the third quarter, including industry, environment and construction, with construction returning to growth after a soft first half. That recovery helped offset persistent weakness in European residential construction, a sector that has weighed on building materials peers across the continent.

SigmaRoc has also been expanding through acquisition, recently completing a €110m deal for a Lithuanian dolomite business as it builds out its presence in the Baltics, part of a broader strategy of bolt-on deals to diversify its mineral products portfolio and geographic footprint.

Management reiterated confidence in meeting full-year expectations, suggesting the operational momentum behind the margin expansion remains intact. Investors will be watching whether the softer pockets of demand flagged by the company persist into the fourth quarter, or whether the sell-off proves an overreaction to a broader market mood rather than a company-specific concern.
