Matthew Lilley, a designer based in North Devon, has launched READY/, a new UK digital product business selling printable planning tools for households and small firms facing power cuts, outages and other disruption.
The first catalogue contains 12 tools, priced from £1.99 to £27.99. They cover power cuts, water outages, severe weather, planning for family members and dependants, pets, food and water, offline communications and home systems. One of them is a £12.99 continuity pack for small businesses.
The small business pack
The business tool, READY/10, is called BUSINESS / 72 HOURS. Lilley says it asks a small firm to identify its critical functions and the maximum downtime it can tolerate, then to list what it depends on, such as power, broadband, premises, key people, suppliers and data, and to write down a workaround for each.
Lilley says the idea is deliberately simple. Public guidance is widely available, he says, but many people and small firms have not written down the decisions that matter when something they rely on fails: who is responsible, what stops working, what can carry on, what the workaround is, where essential controls are and what needs reviewing. READY/ turns those decisions into worksheets that can be filled in, printed and kept offline.
The business is independent and does not present its tools as an official government publication.
Lilley did not give sales figures or say how many customers the business has. The products are sold through the READY/ website.
