A maiden gold resource next door to the Bilboes project has given Caledonia's recovery fresh legs, with a bonus shallow find at Blanket sweetening the cash-flow outlook.
Caledonia Mining Corp (AIM: CMCL) rose 4.01% to £19.45 after unveiling a maiden mineral resource at its Motapa prospect in Zimbabwe, adding another leg to the gold miner's ongoing share price recovery.
The Motapa resource, which sits adjacent to Caledonia's Bilboes project due for production by the end of 2028, comprises 379,000 ounces of gold in the measured and indicated categories plus a further 131,000 ounces inferred, with the company noting the figures exclude further exploration planned for this year.

Alongside the Motapa numbers, Caledonia also reported additional resource growth at its cash-generative Blanket mine, including a first-ever shallow oxide resource of 22,000 ounces of gold at surface. Management believes this near-surface material will be easier and cheaper to extract, potentially adding to Blanket's cash generation as early as the second half of 2026.
That extra cash flow matters because Caledonia is preparing to fund development of the much larger Bilboes project, which the company estimates could cost in the region of $600m to bring into production. Strengthening the resource base at both Motapa and Blanket gives investors more confidence in the company's ability to self-fund at least part of that bill.
With Bilboes targeted for production by the end of 2028 and further exploration at Motapa still to be incorporated into the resource, investors will be watching for updated estimates later this year, alongside progress on bringing the Blanket oxide material into production during the second half of 2026.
