The Ecuadorian political organization, Alianza PAIS (AP), today confirmed the expulsion of the President of the Republic, Lenin Moreno, from her bosom, and his dismissal from the presidency of the movement.
The decision was formally made in an official state statement available on social networks, in which it was reported that the Ethics Committee had rejected a non-affiliation request made by the President and imposed the aforementioned penalties.
The request came a day after Alianza PAIS (Patria Altiva i Soberana) announced a disciplinary process against Moreno for failing to comply with the government’s plan that he won in the elections in 2017.
The text indicates that, “According to a decision, the Ethics Committee announced the approval of the National Directorate for the offenses committed by the President of the Associated Press when he left the political leadership of the movement deserted.”
In this regard, it specifies that Moreno attended the formal sessions only a few times in four years, violating the government’s plan and illegally distributing power to representatives of other political parties, whose agenda was not consistent with the popular commitment gained at the time of his tenure as head of state.
“The decision to expel Moreno will be immediately notified to the complainant and defendant, as well as to the National Electoral Council, so that the sanctioned combatant will be removed from the records of the Associated Press, in accordance with Article 342 of the Democracy Act,” document concludes.
From the same organization, several associates issued standards on defining the PAIS alliance, among them former presidential candidate Ximena Peña, her partner, and ambitious Vice President Patricio Barrega.
“Lenin Moreno’s decision is a response to the disciplinary measures initiated by the organization through its ethics committee,” Peña said in a radio interview.
In his view, the ruling of the movement is a proof of the militants, who have always called for the political organization to have a much stronger and more powerful position against the president’s actions.
He also warned that it was a clear sign of the movement’s effort to purify itself.
For his part, Barega said on Twitter: “It is a wound that will take time to heal, but we heal it.”
