London, January 20 (EFE). Primark said today it plans to cut 400 jobs in its fashion stores as part of a revamp of its UK management team.
The retailer, which is owned by Associated British Foods, said it launched a staff advisory as part of a program to streamline its management structure.
“The changes we are proposing will provide a streamlined management structure” and “provide more opportunities for career advancement,” said Carrie Rodger, Primark UK director.
“We are now focused on supporting our colleagues affected by these proposed changes and will undergo a consultation process,” Rodger added.
The cutting plans come after Primark said the prevalence of the omicron variant has had an impact on the number of customers shopping in its stores.
According to the company, UK Primark sales are down 10% in the 16 weeks to January 8 compared to pre-pandemic levels two years ago.
But he added that trade has improved recently as Omicron’s concerns fade. EFE
