When they were received by President Bashar al-Assad, Lavrentiev and Vershinin said that Moscow is ready to participate in the rehabilitation of infrastructure destroyed by terrorism and to establish investment partnerships with Syria in the fields of energy and agriculture, which will help in reviving the national economy.
They explained that their visit comes in response to President Vladimir Putin’s directives to enhance bilateral cooperation and expand joint work in all fields and at all levels.
The discussions focused on fighting terrorism in the economic and commercial fields, the Syrian presidency said in a press release.
He explained that the two sides analyzed the situation in the country and recent events in the region and the world, and in this regard, al-Assad considered that the US withdrawal in particular from Afghanistan indicates the decline in the role of the United States and its allies.
He explained that this requires the countries of the region and the countries neighboring Afghanistan to work on improving security and laying out plans for the future of the region, taking into account the will of its people without outside interference.
Russia sent troops to Syria in September 2015 at the request of the legitimate government of this nation, to participate in the fight against terrorism.
