The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, asked the United Nations Headquarters to end the embargo imposed by the United States on Cuba.
He regretted that because of the embargo, “the Cuban authorities cannot get injections or medicines today.” He said, according to the Mexican newspaper “La Jornada”, that this embargo imposed on Cuba “and other countries where severe sanctions are imposed causes serious effects on the suffering (of the population) and on the humanitarian conditions that we must all respect.”
Ebrard noted that a few weeks ago, the United Nations General Assembly spoke overwhelmingly against the economic embargo imposed by the United States on Cuba and demanded an end to these unilateral coercive measures.
The resolution rejecting the Cuba embargo this time won 184 votes in favor, two against – the United States and Israel – and three countries abstained – Colombia, Brazil and Ukraine.
