Timan wins court validation over NGPT licence extension

Friday, October 19, 2007

Timan Oil & Gas said today that it had been successful in proceedings against the Russian Federal Subsoil Agency (Rosnedra) in the Moscow Arbitration Court relating to its main exploration and production licence in Timan Pechora.

In February this year Rosnedra filed an internal order with the Subsoil Agency of the Komi Republic (Kominedra) to revoke the extension to Timan's exploration and production licence for the Nizhne-Chutinskoye field in Timan Pechora, originally granted on 21 November 2006 by an addendum to the then existing licence and extending its area from 131 sq km to 215 sq km. Although the company did not receive official notification from the Kominedra it subsequently filed a claim against Rosnedra's order.

At a hearing this week, the court issued its formal decision declaring the internal order from Rosnedra to be unlawful and annulled the order. As a result the extension to Timan's main exploration and production licence in Timan Pechora remains valid.

Alexander Kapalin, chief executive of Timan Oil & Gas, commented: “This court ruling restores clarity to our exploration and production licence owned by NGPT for the full 215 sq km. We are pleased to resolve this matter successfully and look forward to continuing exploration and production activity as previously planned.”
