Sylvania Resources sets sights on development work at Platreef properties
05 November 2009
Sylvania Resources, the Australian mining company, has set out its plans for work on its Platreef properties in South Africa, which it got its hands on as part of the recent acquisitions of SA Metals and Great Australian Resources.
An initial a two phase exploration programme will focus on the Southern Platreef property known as the Grass Valley project. Sylvania will first seek to define a measured JORC compliant resource at the site, with new drilling expected to start before the end of the year. The second phase will involve a bankable feasibility study (BFS) which is currently targeted to complete in mid 2011.
The news comes in the same week that Sylvania announced a partnership with Jubilee Platinum over using ConRoast technology to process platinum group metals (PGM) tailings. That deal is expected to be central to the plans laid out today.
Sylvania said it would continue geological work on the Harriet's Wish, Cracow and Aurora projects.
The company’s chief executive, Terry McConnachie, said: “By commencing work on our recently acquired Platreef ground Sylvania begins the process of developing near surface PGM mines to complement our existing PGM tailings operations. Our strategy is to develop a series of low cost 100 000 tpm modular flotation plants with a target to produce 350 000oz PGM per annum by 2018.”
