Kopane Diamond extends exclusivity agreement over Liqhobong project
26 November 2009
Kopane Diamond Developments has extended an exclusivity agreement over a potential tie-up with another mining company at its flagship Liqhobong project in Lesotho, southern Africa.
Kopane originally signed the 60-day agreement in October but the deal has now been extended to December 15 in order to allow the companies to continue their discussions.
Kopane was forced to shelve operations at the mine in December 2008 following a dramatic fall in the market value of diamonds. Yesterday, it said that suspension had led to a sharp fall in production over the last 12 months to 85,108 carats valued at $3.4 million – down from 148,824 carats and US$6.9 million the previous year.
