Salamander Energy sees production rise and plans major exploration programme
19 November 2009
Salamander Energy today reported that daily production from its assets rose to an average of 15,700 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the third quarter – up from 12,800 barrels in the first half of the year.
The Asia-focused E&P company was boosted during the period by the start of production from its 50%-owned Kambuna gas-condensate field, offshore North Sumatra. However, recent disruption to operations there means that full year production is expected to average at 14,000 barrels.
On a brighter note, Salamander enjoyed a new gas discovery in the South Sebuku-1 well in East Kalimantan, Indonesia in August and is hoping to begin appraisal work on the field during 2010.
Finally, the company has now embarked on a 14-well exploration and appraisal programme that it targeting more than 450 million barrels of oil equivalent of unrisked net resources between now and the end of 2010.
The first well in the programme will be an exploration well on the Bang Nouan gas prospect in the Savannakhet PSC in Lao PDR. This is expected to spud in January and a rig has been secured.
This will be followed by a well on the Angklung prospect in the Bontang PSC, Indonesia and by two wells in Vietnam, expected to spud in the second quarter of 2010. The group is currently midway through the tender process for rigs for these wells.
