Pantheon Resources hits problems with Jumonville #1 well
02 February 2010
Pantheon Resources, the oil and gas group active in Louisiana and Texas, has reported that its Jumonville #1 well has been shut-in after oil and gas production fell away because of rising water levels.
Pantheon has a 15% working interest and 11.25% net revenue interest in the well, which lies on the Bullseye prospect at Iberville Parish, Louisiana. The operator, Golden Gate Petroleum, is now working on a programme to re-complete the well in the Camerina interval, which was the secondary target to the main Miogyp formation in Jumonville #1 when it was drilled back in April 2008.
Elsewhere, plans to drill a second well on Pantheon’s Tyler County acreage in east Texas have been delayed until March, dashing hopes that drilling would already be underway. Once spudded, drilling is expected to take 75 days on a trouble free basis. The main objective for the next well will be the Austin Chalk and the location chosen will test a high potential target.
An earlier attempt to drill the Vision Rice University #1 well at Tyler County encountered much higher pressures that anticipated as well as an unconsolidated rubble zone. To cope with these factors, the drilling plan for the second and subsequent wells has been re-engineered. The operator, Vision Resources, believes the revised plan should avoid recurrence of VRU #1's mechanical difficulties.
