Max Petroleum gets green light for Astrakhanskiy work programme

09 February 2010

Max Petroleum, the oil and gas group operating in Kazakhstan, has got the Government go-ahead for its 2010 work programme on the Astrakhanskiy Licence, which will include the drilling of the first exploration well there.

Astrakhanskiy is one of three oil and gas blocks that Max owns the rights over in the Pre-Caspian Basin – the others are Blocks A & E.

In May 2009, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources extended the Astrakhanskiy Block licence period by two years until January 2012 and approved Max’s three-year work programme. That programme included drilling one well in 2009 but that was later delayed until 2010

Last autumn Max began farm-out discussions with potential partners over its deep rights in Blocks A & E and Astrakhanskiy in October 2009, based upon its fully depth processed 3D seismic data.
