Matra prepares to start drilling programme in Hungary

31 March 2008

Matra Petroleum, the oil and gas E&P company focused on Central Europe and Russia, said today that it was about to kick off the busiest part of its 2008 drilling programme.

Drilling is about to begin in Hungary, where final preparations for a two well programme on the Inke Concession are underway. The first well, Pamuk K-1, is expected to start in early May, with the second well Polany E-1 following afterwards.

In Russia, Matra is continuing to drill test the Arkhangelovskoe -11 well. But operations at Arkhangelovskoe –12 have been hampered by an early thaw in Orenburg, which has restricted access for several weeks.

Matra’s managing director Peter Hind, said the period of disruption caused by the annual thaw had been used to replace the leased temporary production facility with a permanent installation. “Once field development begins these access roads will be metalled to ensure continuous access,” he said.
