International Oil & Gas Rig Count: January 2010

The latest worldwide oil and gas rig count for January 2010 has come in at 2,773 – up 264 from the 2,509 in December 2009 but down 201 from the 2,974 counted in January 2009.
The figures from oilfield services group Baker Hughes separate rig counts into “International” and “US & Canada” listings, as well as onshore and offshore locations.
On the international front, there was a small rise in numbers between December 2009 and January 2010, up 23 at 1,047 and up three from the 1,044 rigs counted in January 2009.
The US rig count for January 2010 was 1,267, up 95 on the previous month but down 286 from the 1,553 counted in January 2009.
