Hyperdynamics reports promising findings from oil seeps study in Guinea

20 November 2009

Hyperdynamics, the New York oil and gas explorer today said it had received encouraging early results from an oil seeps study of its 31,000-square-mile concession offshore Guinea.

Ray Leonard, the company’s president and chief executive, said the study had looked to survey projected sites of oil seepage in three areas of its concession and that the samples survey could help to confirm the existence of multiple active hydrocarbon systems.

He said: “We are especially encouraged by the fact that the survey was able to confirm oil slicks identified by satellite imagery, and in some cases, trace them back to their subsurface origin. Both fluid samples and drop core samples were successfully obtained from the survey, and we will be analysing them to differentiate source rock ages.”
