Griffin Mining frustrated by approval hiccup with Caijiaying mine application
24 November 2009
Griffin Mining’s efforts to start working below the 1300 level at its Caijiaying zinc-gold mine have hit another stumbling block after the Chinese authorities asked for some changes to an application it submitted nearly two weeks ago.
In an update, Griffin said the application had been reviewed and the Ministry of Land and Resources had requested that a number of rectifications be made. Griffin is understood to have begun work on these amendments and plans to re-lodge the application in the near future.
This original process involved a statutory 28 working day approval process, which has been suspended on day 11 and will resume at this point once the rectifications have been addressed.
Once Griffin gets the approval in needs, it intends to release a new JORC compliant updated mineral resource estimate for the mine. Caijiaying returned to profitability in the quarter ended September 30, 2009, having processed 114,233 tons of ore to produce 6,783 tons of zinc, 1,351 ounces of gold, 38,019 ounces of silver and 218 tons of lead.
These production results followed 33,152 tons of ore being processed in June immediately after recommencement of operations following the suspension of production in the first five months of 2009.
