Global Petroleum says Tyler Ranch #4 is well placed for Eagle Ford shale
25 November 2009
Australian oil and gas group Global Petroleum today said that further test work on the recently drilled Tyler Ranch #4 well on the Leighton prospect in Texas, US, indicated that there was 197 feet of pay in the well.
Under the operatorship of US company Texon Petroleum, five wells have been drilled at Leighton under the current programme and all have encountered hydrocarbons in the Olmos reservoir. Tyler Ranch #4 is already producing oil from the Olmos but additional work shows that oil and gas will also be forthcoming from the all-important Eagle Ford shale and the deeper Buda and Edwards limestone.
Analysis of the electric logs from the well indicates 197 feet of pay in the well, including 28 feet from the Olmos, 142 feet from Eagle Ford and 27 feet from Buda and Edwards limestone.
The closest two Eagle Ford production wells to the south west of Leighton belong to Petrohawk Energy and averaged an initial production rate of 4.2 million cubic feet of gas per day and 310 barrels of oil per day.
Analysis of the Eagle Ford in Tyler Ranch #4 show that its porosities and permeabilities are in line with better quality Eagle Ford wells. Approximately 75% of the rock is limestone suggesting that the Eagle Ford in Tyler Ranch #4 should respond well to production enhancing fracture stimulation.
Global Petroleum has a 15% working interest (11.25% net revenue interest) in the Leighton project with joint venture parties Texon Petroleum (70%) and Excellong (15%).
