EnCore says rig expected this week for Esmond evaluation well

08 September 2008

EnCore Oil, the oil and gas company that is soon to find out whether it is sitting on a valuable gas storage project in the North Sea, is expecting the arrival of a rig this week that will drill the all-important evaluation well over the site.

EnCore, which has a 50% stake in the project, said its operator-partner Star Energy had secured the use of the Energy Enhancer jack up rig to drill the well on the Esmond field located on block 43/13a.

The evaluation well is required to confirm that the underlying reservoir pressure has not risen significantly since the field was depleted and abandoned. Drilling operations are expected to be completed within 25 days of the well spudding.

Alan Booth, EnCore’s chief executive, said: “The information provided from the pressure test will help fully define the potential size and scope of the Esmond Gordon gas storage project. Once defined, we will have greater certainty on the value.”
