EnCore Oil makes light oil discovery at Bowstring East

17 November 2008

EnCore Oil has announced an oil discovery at the Bowstring East prospect in block 210/29a in the UK Northern North Sea.

The company said a discovery well drilled by operator, Sterling Resources of Canada had reached a total depth of 9,734 ft and wireline logging had confirmed 25 ft of net hydrocarbon pay over a gross interval of over 110 ft.

Alan Booth, EnCore Oil’s chief executive, said: “I am absolutely delighted with the success of this well. The well has intersected a light oil column of over 110 feet within an Upper Jurassic stratigraphic trap. Given its stratigraphic nature, there is potential for the hydrocarbon column height to increase both up dip and down dip of the current location.”

Booth added that the companies involved in the well had now obtained sufficient oil samples, reservoir pressure and permeability data to conclude that the cost of a winter well testing programme would be better spent on further appraisal of the discovery. As a result the well has been suspended for likely use during any future appraisal or development drilling.
