Emed Mining makes progress with permitting process for Rio Tinto mine
24 November 2009
Emed Mining today said it was making progress towards getting approval to start production at its Rio Tinto copper mine in Spain by then end of 2010.
The latest developments have seen the local authorities give the company the green light to submit its remaining plans for the rehabilitation of the mine for regulatory approval. Its Environmental Impact Assessment is still under public consultation and consideration is now being given to getting the company its mineral rights and operating permit.
Emed said it was pleasing that the process was still targeting commissioning start-up by the end of 2010 and for production to settle down in 2011.
The company acquired the Rio Tinto mine and processing facility in 2007 and since then has been trying to clear all of the regulatory processes to get it up and running. A recovery in the market price of copper in recent months has given the project more urgency.
