Circle Oil gets production underway from Geyad-2X ST1 well in Egypt
04 February 2010
Oil and gas group Circle has reported that production is underway from the Geyad-2X ST1 well, which lies on the onshore NW Gemsa Concession in Egypt.
The well is the second appraisal well to be drilled on the Geyad discovery area and is producing at approximately 2100 barrels of oil per day (bopd). The new addition takes overall, adjusted daily production from the Al Amir Development Lease and the two Geyad wells to over 9200 bopd. Cumulative oil production from the area since production began in late February 2009 is now over 1.3 million barrels.
Production from the Geyad-2X ST1 well has started from the upper of the two identified pay zones in the Kareem Shagar Sandstone. The lower untested pay zone, in the Kareem Rahmi Sandstone, is expected to be further evaluated at a later date.
The NW Gemsa Concession, containing the Al Amir Development Lease and covering an area of over 260 sq km, lies about 300km south-east of Cairo in a partially unexplored area of the Gulf of Suez Basin.
The NW Gemsa Concession partners include Vegas Oil and Gas (50% interest and operator); Circle Oil (40% interest); and Sea Dragon Energy (10% interest). The rig is now drilling the Al-Amir SE-5 well where the primary target is the Kareem Formation. This well is being drilled primarily to delineate a potential reservoir boundary.
Earlier this week, Circle secured a deal with authorities in Morocco that gave it access to permits covering 2,200 sq km of the country’s Rharb Basin. The petroleum agreement includes the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons for the “Lalla Mimouna Nord” and “Lalla Mimouna Sud” exploration permits.
