Aminex eyes fast track production from Tanzania discovery

Thursday, July 17, 2008

Aminex, the oil and gas explorer, has announced plans to fast track production from its recent gas discovery in Tanzania.

The company recently completed the second stage of a three-stage production sharing agreement, known as the Nyuni PSA, which saw the discovery of apparently large gas resources at the Kiliwani North-1 (KN-1) well.

Ahead of moving on to the third stage of the exploration programme, the company said it had applied to the Tanzaninan government to let it kick off production from the KN-1 well at the same time as fulfilling its exploration obligations.

Aminex said KN should be treated as one of several adjoining gas accumulations in acreage it holds with partners, which should provide the basis for development of a significant new gas business in the region.

During drilling in June, the KN-1 well encountered a 60 metre gross gas column in Lower Cretaceous sands. A 20 metre interval was perforated and was later successfully production-tested. The well test recorded a flow rate of 40 million cubic feet per day.

Partners in the Nyuni PSA are Ndovu Resources Ltd (Aminex) 40% (operator), RAK Gas Commission (25%), Key Petroleum Ltd (20%), East African Exploration (10%) and Bounty Oil (5%).
