Amerisur Resources to carry out extended testing on Iguasa-1 well in Colombia

04 February 2010

Amerisur Resources, the oil and gas producer and explorer focused on South America, is set to carry out a full test of its Iguasa-1 well on the 100%-controlled Fenix contract in Colombia.

Iguasa-1 is the first well on Amerisur’s the contract area and was drilled in November last year when early testing recovered 35°API oil at surface, together with associated gas, from the first of a series of sand intervals. At the time, the company decided to release the Petrex PTX-22 drilling rig in order to mobilise a smaller rig more suited to the ongoing testing operation.

Amerisur is now preparing to carry out the extended work on the well after bringing in the rig Latco-02 to test up to nine discrete sandstone intervals in the lower section of the well, which is expected to take approximately 28 days.

After testing, Amerisur will ship in extra equipment to allow the rig to drill another well nearby, which will explore the upper prospect encountered during the drilling of Iguasa-1. The new well, called Isabel-1, is expected to take approximately 27 days to drill and test.
