Amerisur Resources gets go-ahead for exploitation plan on Platanillo field
08 February 2010
Oil and gas group Amerisur Resources today reported that the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) of Colombia had authorised the start of the Exploitation Period on the company’s 100%-held Platanillo field.
What this means is that Amerisur can now push ahead with plans to increase the injection rates and consequent production from its two wells on the field.
The development dates back to October 2009 when Amerisur filed an application with Colombia’s Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH) outlining the Exploitation Area which it considered should be retained for commercial production, together with the required Exploitation Plan.
The application followed confirmation of a deal in September last year in which Amerisur took full control of the Platanillo field by acquiring the stake held by its partner Ecopetrol SA.
At the time, production was underway from the two wells on the field but Amerisur said it would await the Government’s green light for its Exploitation Plan before trying to increase production rates. Total current production from Platanillo-2 and Alea-1 is currently around 360 barrels of oil per day, which Amerisur reckons has put it in a cashflow positive position.
