American Leisure development stalls amid debt market woes

Monday, June 09, 2008

American Leisure has blamed problems in the international debt markets for further setbacks in the development of its Sonesta resort near Walt Disney World in Florida.

The company said today it was in talks with an existing debt provider about securing a significant additional debt facility and that those talks should conclude this month.

American is currently trying to complete the 122 acre development, and said in March that it was aiming to open for business in autumn this year. That date has now been shifted to early 2009.

It said that prevalent market conditions and the slower pace of construction of town home units and the resort’s amenity package, were continuing to have a detrimental impact on the company's sales efforts.

American’s full year results to 31 December 2007 are expected at the end of June.
