ATH Resources wins planning approval for Langton regeneration scheme

26 November 2009

ATH Resources, the UK coal producer, has been given the green-light by council officials in Derbyshire over its planning application for the development of a proposed regeneration scheme at Langton in Nottinghamshire

The move follows an appeal by ATH against an earlier decision made by Derbyshire County Council, who ruled against the application. Councillors in Nottinghamshire have already approved the application.

ATH now plans to start plant construction at Langton as early as possible with coal production from the site expected to begin in the second half of 2010.

The operation is expected to produce approximately 175,000 tonnes per year over two and a half years and will generate employment for 35 people. Restoration of the site following extraction and washing will take a further six months.

Tom Allchurch, the chief executive of ATH, said the company was “delighted” to have received approval for the project.
