Good news for Northern Petroleum and Wessex Exploration and bad news for Petro Matad this week.
Northern Petroleum (NOP) and Wessex Exploration (WSX) have a 2.5% interest between them in the Tullow Oil operated Zaedyus exploration well, offshore French Guiana, which has encountered 72 metres of net oil pay in two turbidite fans. Drilling operations will now continue and the well will be deepened to over 6,000 metres to calibrate the deeper geology. The well will then likely be sidetracked to enable cores to be obtained over the reservoir sections.
Tethys Petroleum (TPL) announced the initial logging results of its KBD01 (Kalypso) exploration well drilled in the Kul-Bas block some 50 km north west of the Doris oil discovery. Electric logs just run over the deeper section indicate more than 100 metres of gross potential hydrocarbon bearing zones in what is interpreted to be shelf limestones of Carboniferous age. This is in addition to the hydrocarbon indications noted on logs and drill data in the overlying Jurassic section (logged prior to drilling th deeper hole section). A comprehensive testing programme on both the Carboniferous and Jurassic intervals is planned once approvals are given.
Petro Matad’s (MATD) Davsan Tolgoi-10 exploration well in Mongolia did not encounter moveable hydrocarbons and will be plugged and abandoned. The drilling rig will next be moved to a site about 225m south of the DT-1 well. DT-11 will be drilled as a replacement for the DT-1 well, which has been abandoned due to probable formation damage.
San Leon Energy (SLE) announced that drilling has`commenced on the Chopin-1 exploration well on the Nida Concession (San Leon 100%) in Poland. The well is planned to reach a total depth of 1,000 meters and will test multiple targets on trend with the Plowowice and Grobla oil fields. The Company plans to drill two exploration wells on the concession, this month, targeting multiple one to two million barrel prospects.

In Oman, Circle Oil (COP) has been granted an extension to the exploration period for onshore Block 49 until 26 December 2012. Within this time frame, Circle will be required to complete an additional 2,500 line kilometres of closely spaced 2D seismic survey and drill one exploration well. On Block 52, interpretation of recently acquired 2D seismic has confirmed the presence of multiple structures and potential targets for exploration drilling. As result a farm-out process has been initiated.
